Institutional Reform in Indian Sports

IOA National Olympic Education Reform Drive: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has announced two major institutional reforms aimed at strengthening India’s Olympic ecosystem. These reforms focus on long-term capacity building, ethical governance, and athlete-centric development.

The initiatives mark a shift from event-focused preparation to system-based Olympic development. Education, leadership, and values are placed at the core of sporting excellence.

Decisions Taken at Ahmedabad Meetings

The reforms were approved during the IOA Executive Council meeting on January 8, 2026, and later endorsed at the Annual General Meeting on January 9, 2026. Both meetings were held in Ahmedabad.

The unanimous approval reflects institutional consensus on reforming India’s Olympic framework. The IOA stated that the decisions follow global best practices in Olympic education and governance.

National Olympic Education and Development Programme

The National Olympic Education and Development Programme (NOEDP) is a structured national framework designed to deliver education across the Olympic ecosystem. It will be implemented in partnership with National Sports Federations and State Olympic Associations.

The programme aims to reach athletes from the grassroots to elite levels. It focuses on Olympic values, ethics, professionalism, and holistic athlete development.
