Empowering tribal voices across India
India’s Tribal Outreach Gets a Boost with DhartiAaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan: The DhartiAaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan is more than just a government campaign. It’s a nationwide effort to make sure every tribal family in India gets what they are rightfully entitled to. Launched on June 15, 2025, by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, this campaign has turned the spotlight on inclusive governance and grassroots empowerment. Covering a vast network of 549 tribal districts and over 1 lakh villages, this is India’s most ambitious tribal outreach effort to date.
Reaching the remotest homes
What sets this campaign apart is its scale and intent. From dense forests in Jharkhand to remote hill regions of the Northeast, the government is setting up village-level camps to deliver key welfare schemes right at people’s doorsteps. These camps help tribal families access services like Aadhaar enrolment, Ayushman Bharat health cards, Jan Dhan accounts, and PM-Kisan registrations without traveling miles.
Strengthening last-mile delivery
The campaign focuses on the principle of Antyodaya – reaching the last person in line. District Magistrates, community leaders, and Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) are working together to mobilize locals. From scholarships for tribal students to life insurance and pensions, the aim is to ensure no tribal household is left out. This people-first approach reflects PM Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat.
Why it matters now?
The campaign is being carried out during Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh, a year celebrating tribal heritage. It supports larger programs like PM-JANMAN (Janjatiya Nyaya Mahabhiyan) and DAJGUA (Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan). These umbrella schemes underline the government’s effort to uplift Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs)—the most isolated among tribal communities.
A nationwide model for inclusive development
Using a camp-based strategy, officials visit each tribal habitation, making governance accessible, accountable, and visible. Awareness campaigns before the visits help spread the word. It’s a practical approach that brings together multiple ministries to act as one unified front for tribal welfare.
