India’s First Hydrogen Train Marks Green Rail Transformation: India has achieved a major milestone with the successful trial of its first hydrogen-powered train. The announcement was made by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in March 2026. This marks a significant shift towards clean energy adoption in the transport sector.
The trial was conducted by the Research Designs and Standards Organization (RDSO). It validated safety, stability, and performance standards. With this, India joins countries like Germany, Japan, and China in hydrogen rail technology.
