India’s First Forest University in Gorakhpur: India is set to establish its first-ever Forest University in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. This initiative marks a significant shift in how the country approaches forestry education, wildlife protection, and ecosystem research. Strategic Location and Infrastructure

The Forest University will come up in Gorakhpur, a region with ecological significance in eastern Uttar Pradesh. The proposed campus will span around 125 acres, ensuring ample space for academic, residential, and research facilities.

An initial allocation of ₹50 crore has been provided in the state budget for the project. The location near the Jatayu Conservation and Breeding Centre enhances opportunities for wildlife-related field studies.

Special attention will be given to wildlife conservation, environmental studies, climate science, and ecosystem-based biotechnology. Practical exposure through fieldwork, forest surveys, and conservation projects will be central to the curriculum.
