Transformation through digital defence
Indian Army Terrier Cyber Quest 2025: The Indian Army has unveiled the Terrier Cyber Quest 2025 in New Delhi under its Decade of Transformation vision. This premier national challenge seeks to build a strong base in cyber and digital warfare capabilities. It is organized jointly with IIT Madras, the Indian Army Research Cell (IARC), and CyberPeace, bringing together talent from universities, industry, and government institutions.
Static GK fact: The Indian Army came into existence as an independent force on January 26, 1950, the day India became a Republic.
Purpose of the initiative
The competition is aimed at boosting home-grown innovation in AI, ML, quantum computing, and cybersecurity. By encouraging participants to think critically and design prototypes, it lays the foundation for stronger national defence technologies. This initiative also motivates young innovators to become future-ready digital warriors.
Main competition streams
The event is structured around two separate tracks.
Bug Hunting Challenge
This track is a 36-hour live hackathon focused on the BOSS Linux operating system. Contestants attempt to find security loopholes within a simulated Army IT environment. The exercise strengthens system reliability and enhances cyber defence preparedness.
Datathon track
This part of the contest tests participants on data analytics and predictive solutions. Teams work with massive datasets to create tools for threat forecasting and anomaly detection that could directly support defence operations.
Static GK Tip: Bharat Operating System Solutions (BOSS) was developed by C-DAC to reduce dependency on foreign software platforms.
Focus on futuristic problem-solving
The challenge integrates real-world scenarios where advanced technologies intersect. Participants deal with complex tasks such as detecting anomalies in drone flights, identifying quantum-driven malware, and countering ransomware threats. These challenges simulate the kind of digital battlefields that modern armies face.
Finale and honours
At the concluding stage, finalists from the bug-hunting stream face an attack-versus-defence showdown targeting critical systems. Meanwhile, finalists from the data track build a working deepfake detection model powered by AI and ML within 36 hours.
Winners will be recognised by General Upendra Dwivedi, the serving Chief of the Army Staff, for their innovative contributions. This recognition highlights the Army’s focus on creating a tech-driven defence ecosystem for India’s future.
Static GK fact: The post of Chief of the Army Staff was established in 1955, making it the topmost command in the Indian Army hierarchy.
