Key enablers behind the rise
The increase in exports is attributed to improved climate conditions, emphasis on quality enhancement, and demand from consistent buyers such as the UAE, Russia, Iran, and the UK.
Efforts by the Tea Board of India to streamline export logistics and support brand promotion have further supported this expansion.
Static GK fact: India ranks as the world’s second-largest tea producer, behind only China.
Market dynamics and global positioning

Static GK Tip: The Tea Board of India, created in 1953, plays a central role in regulating and promoting the tea industry. It operates under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Significance for rural economy
The tea industry supports employment in remote plantation zones and remains a key component of India’s agro-export basket. Rising exports help maintain foreign exchange reserves and support trade stability.
