India hosts 89th IEC General Meeting 2025: India will host the 89th General Meeting of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) from 15 to 19 September 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event, organised by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), will unite over 2,000 global experts from more than 100 countries. It aims to deliberate on international electrotechnical standards that drive sustainability and innovation.

Inauguration and exhibition

The meeting will be inaugurated by Shri Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs and New & Renewable Energy. The IEC GM Exhibition, opening on 16 September by Shri Piyush Goyal, will showcase innovations in smart lighting, electric mobility, IT manufacturing, and electronics.

The exhibition will feature 75 exhibitors, free public entry with registration, and participation from over 2,000 students. It is expected to be the largest electrotechnical showcase in India to date.

Mr. Vimal Mahendru, Vice President of IEC, noted that IEC standards influence nearly 20% of global trade by value. India’s leadership in LVDC is a strategic step in the global clean energy transition.

Workshops and technical sessions

The IEC GM 2025 will host 150+ committee meetings and specialised workshops. Key themes include:

These sessions aim to create consensus on next-generation standards in technology and sustainability.

The IEC Young Professionals Programme will involve 93 participants in workshops and industry visits, nurturing future technology leaders. BIS will also integrate standardisation into education through student chapters and internships.

At the BIS Pavilion, visitors can take a Digital Sustainability Pledge. For every pledge, BIS will plant a sapling, promoting environmental stewardship nationwide.
