IFFCO Paradeep Nano Fertiliser Expansion Strengthens Cooperative Agriculture: Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the nano fertiliser plant expansion at Paradeep in Odisha, highlighting the growing strength of India’s cooperative sector. The project was developed by Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), one of the largest fertiliser cooperatives globally.

The expansion aims to increase production of nano fertilisers, a new generation of fertilisers designed to improve nutrient efficiency and reduce excessive chemical fertiliser use. These fertilisers are applied in smaller quantities while maintaining crop productivity, making them important for sustainable agriculture.

Role of IFFCO in the Cooperative Sector

IFFCO represents one of the most successful examples of India’s cooperative movement. It operates several fertiliser plants and provides agricultural inputs to millions of farmers through cooperative societies across the country.

According to official figures, IFFCO’s annual turnover exceeds ₹41,000 crore, while its profits are over ₹3,800 crore. The organisation also maintains a net worth above ₹28,000 crore, reflecting its financial stability and operational scale.

These achievements demonstrate how cooperative institutions can strengthen rural economies by providing essential agricultural services while maintaining farmer ownership and participation.

A key raw material used in this process is sulphuric acid, which plays an essential role in manufacturing phosphatic fertilisers such as DAP and NPK. These fertilisers are widely used to improve crop yield and soil fertility across Indian agriculture.

The modernisation of the Paradeep facility with advanced fertiliser technologies is expected to improve production efficiency and ensure reliable supply for farmers.

The event was attended by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, IFFCO Chairman Dilip Sanghani, and Managing Director K.J. Patel, along with other senior officials.

The initiative aligns with the objectives of the Ministry of Cooperation, which was established in 2021 to strengthen cooperative organisations and improve their contribution to the national economy.

By supporting institutions such as IFFCO, the government aims to promote farmer prosperity, rural employment, and sustainable agricultural growth.
