Boost for regular highway users
Govt launches FASTag Annual Pass for Private Vehicles at ₹3000: Starting August 15, 2025, private vehicle owners across India can opt for a new FASTag Annual Pass worth ₹3,000. This pass allows up to 200 toll-free trips or use for one calendar year, whichever ends first. It’s exclusively available for non-commercial four-wheelers like cars, jeeps, and vans. The move is aimed at streamlining highway toll payments, reducing booth disputes, and encouraging digital-first travel solutions.
Simplifying toll for everyday travel
Many highway users, especially those who travel frequently between cities, face tolls every few kilometers. Toll plazas located within 60 km of each other often cause confusion, arguments, and unwanted delays. By paying a one-time fixed fee, users can now enjoy smoother rides without repeated deductions. This also ensures that travel remains cost-effective, especially for daily commuters like office goers or small business owners.
How the pass works?
The pass doesn’t deduct toll amounts per trip. Instead, it allows a set limit of 200 trips, applicable on any National Highway. Once that limit is crossed, usual toll deductions resume. If unused, it stays valid for a year. So, whether you use it for long road trips or short weekly commutes, the pass provides flexibility.
Where to get it?
Activation is quick and digital. Vehicle owners can access the pass through the Rajmarg Yatra App, or the official websites of NHAI and MoRTH. You’ll need your vehicle registration number and FASTag credentials. After a short verification, the pass gets activated and linked to your existing FASTag.
Why this is significant?
This initiative isn’t just about saving money. It’s part of a broader push toward cashless highways and automated tolling systems. Since February 2021, FASTag has been mandatory for toll collection across India. But many still faced issues with varying toll rates or inconsistent deductions. This new pass brings transparency and predictability, reducing public frustration.
A step toward digital road infrastructure
By reducing friction at toll booths and making costs predictable, the government aims to improve travel experience and traffic flow. It also reduces dependency on manual toll systems and helps reduce long queues during peak hours.
Did you know? India has over 1.46 lakh km of National Highways, accounting for about 2% of total road length but carrying over 40% of the traffic.
