Celebration in Goa
Goa hosts 10th Ayurveda Day with global participation: The 10th Ayurveda Day will be celebrated on 23rd September 2025 at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Goa. For the first time, the event will be observed on a fixed date, moving away from the earlier practice of celebrating it on Dhanvantari Jayanti. This marks a shift towards consistent recognition of Ayurveda on the international stage.
Static GK fact: Dhanvantari is regarded as the Hindu god of medicine and is traditionally worshipped as the founder of Ayurveda.
Why Goa was chosen
Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav announced Goa as the venue, calling it a perfect global stage. Goa is known for its cultural diversity, wellness tourism, and international appeal. Hosting the event at AIIA Goa, a state-of-the-art institute under the Ministry of Ayush, reflects India’s commitment to promoting traditional medicine through modern infrastructure and international collaborations.
Static GK Tip: The Ministry of Ayush was formed in 2014 to promote Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy.
Theme for 2025
The theme for this year is “Ayurveda for People & Planet.” It emphasizes two aspects:
- For People – Promoting Ayurveda as an accessible, affordable, and preventive healthcare system.
- For Planet – Encouraging eco-friendly practices, sustainable resource use, and harmony with nature.
This dual message aligns Ayurveda with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), linking traditional knowledge with modern sustainability concerns.
Global outreach and participation
The Ministry of Ayush has expanded global outreach for this edition. Last year’s participation came from over 150 countries, and this year, the number is expected to rise further. Activities include:
- State and Union Territory-level events in India.
- Ayurveda workshops, health camps, and seminars organized by Indian Missions abroad.
- Collaborations with international universities, wellness organizations, and diaspora communities.
This reflects India’s growing role in health diplomacy, projecting Ayurveda as both a cultural export and a global healthcare model.
Importance of the celebration
The 10th Ayurveda Day is not just ceremonial but a historic milestone. It highlights Ayurveda as a solution to lifestyle diseases, environmental stress, and the global need for sustainable healthcare models. By fixing the date on 23rd September, Ayurveda gains a global identity similar to International Yoga Day, strengthening its international recognition.
Static GK fact: International Day of Yoga is celebrated every year on 21st June since its adoption by the UN in 2014.
