Gender Budget Expansion Strengthens Women Empowerment in India: India’s Gender Budget allocation has increased to ₹5.01 lakh crore in the Union Budget 2026-27, reflecting an 11.55% rise from ₹4.49 lakh crore in the previous year. This announcement was made by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, highlighting the government’s strengthened focus on women empowerment. The increase demonstrates India’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to public resources.

The allocation now forms 9.37% of the total Union Budget, compared to 8.86% last year, indicating a growing share of national expenditure dedicated to women and girls. This means nearly one-tenth of the country’s total fiscal spending supports gender-inclusive development.
