Four New Vande Bharat Trains Strengthen India’s Rail Connectivity: Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off four new Vande Bharat Express trains from Varanasi on 8 November 2025. The newly launched routes include Banaras-Khajuraho, Lucknow-Saharanpur, Firozpur-Delhi, and Ernakulam-Bengaluru. This initiative highlights the government’s focus on modernising railway infrastructure and enhancing travel comfort while improving regional mobility.
Enhanced Routes and Travel Time
- The Banaras → Khajuraho route connects major spiritual and heritage destinations such as Varanasi, Prayagraj, Chitrakoot, and Khajuraho, saving approximately 2 hours 40 minutes.
- The Lucknow → Saharanpur train completes its journey in about 7 hours 45 minutes, cutting travel time by nearly one hour and linking key cities including Sitapur, Bareilly, Moradabad, and Bijnor.
- The Firozpur → Delhi train covers the distance in around 6 hours 40 minutes, becoming the fastest train on this corridor, connecting Bathinda and Patiala to the National Capital Region.
- The Ernakulam → Bengaluru service takes 8 hours 40 minutes, reducing travel time by over 2 hours, improving links between two major southern commercial and IT hubs.
Strategic Benefits and Network Expansion
The addition of these new routes strengthens regional mobility, stimulates economic growth, and promotes tourism across India. The Banaras-Khajuraho route connects key cultural centers, the Lucknow-Saharanpur route enhances intra-state travel, while the Firozpur-Delhi and Ernakulam-Bengaluru routes support business and education corridors. With this, the total number of Vande Bharat Express services in the country has reached 164.

Static GK fact: The train, also known as Train 18, is a semi-high-speed service developed by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai under the Make in India initiative. It is designed for speeds up to 180 km/h, though current operations are limited to 130–160 km/h.
These modern trains feature rotatable executive-class seats, automatic doors, on-board Wi-Fi, and are equipped with Kavach, India’s indigenous train collision-avoidance system.
