Strengthening Bilateral Humanitarian Operations

Exercise Tiger Triumph 2025: Enhancing India-US Disaster Response Synergy : The fourth edition of Exercise Tiger Triumph is underway from April 1 to 13, 2025, marking a significant milestone in India-US defence diplomacy. This tri-service exercise, involving the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force alongside their US counterparts, focuses on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR). The main aim is to boost interoperability and crisis coordination, particularly during natural disasters and emergency scenarios.

Harbour and Sea Phases: Dual Operational Structure

Tiger Triumph 2025 is structured into two distinct phases. The Harbour Phase, held from April 1–7 in Visakhapatnam, included joint planning sessions, medical team interactions, and flag ceremonies aboard INS Jalashwa. The Sea Phase, from April 8–13 off the Kakinada coast, features naval drills, amphibious landings, and joint command exercises, reinforcing real-time disaster response mechanisms.

Forces and Assets Deployed

India deployed key assets such as INS Gharial, INS Mumbai, and INS Shakti, supported by P-8I maritime patrol aircraft, C-130, and Mi-17 helicopters. The 91 Infantry Brigade and 12 Mechanized Infantry Battalion represented the Army, while the Rapid Action Medical Team (RAMT) from the IAF joined hands with the US Navy Medical Unit. The US side fielded ships like USS Comstock and USS Ralph Johnson, along with troops from the US Marine Division.

Strategic and Diplomatic Significance

Beyond military coordination, this exercise reflects India’s aspiration to be a regional first responder in the Indo-Pacific. The joint formulation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and a Combined Coordination Center (CCC) ensures both nations are well-prepared to act swiftly during crises. It also showcases shared democratic values and promotes peacekeeping capabilities in the region.
