Dr. Sandip Shah takes charge as NABL Chairperson: Dr. Sandip Shah has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL). This board works under the Quality Council of India (QCI) and plays a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of testing labs across India. With more than three decades of experience in the medical field, Dr. Shah’s appointment is seen as a strong move towards enhancing the quality and innovation in diagnostic services.
Dr. Shah’s background and expertise
Dr. Shah completed his MD in Pathology and Bacteriology from B.J. Medical College in Ahmedabad, where he was a Gold Medalist. Over the past 35 years, he has built deep expertise in areas like pathology, molecular biology, and transplant immunology. He has played key roles in developing modern diagnostic facilities, especially through his work at Neuberg Supratech Reference Laboratories, which he founded. He is also the Joint Managing Director at Neuberg Diagnostics and serves as an Honorary Director at the Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Center.
Contributions to healthcare
Dr. Shah has been a pioneer in pushing the boundaries of healthcare services. During the Covid-19 pandemic, he launched India’s first drive-through testing facility, where over 3,500 tests were done at a single location. This innovative approach made testing more accessible and efficient. He also held the position of Chair of the Medical Labs Accreditation Improvement Committee (MLAIC) at NABL, where he worked on enhancing standards and procedures in lab testing.
