Dombivli Lezim Record Highlights Women’s Day Spirit in Maharashtra: International Women’s Day 2026 was widely celebrated across Maharashtra through rallies, sports events, cultural programs, and health awareness campaigns. The celebrations followed the theme “Give to Gain,” highlighting the importance of empowering women through participation in community activities and public life.
Government departments, municipal bodies, and local organizations organized various events across districts. These initiatives aimed to strengthen awareness about women’s health, safety, and leadership, while also encouraging social participation.

Guinness World Record Lezim Dance in Dombivli
One of the most notable highlights was the Guinness World Record Lezim dance performance organized in Dombivli. A total of 9,111 women and girls from Dombivli and Kalyan participated in the traditional Lezim dance simultaneously at the Savalaram Maharaj Sports Complex.
This performance broke the previous world record of 7,338 participants, demonstrating massive community participation. The event showcased Maharashtra’s rich cultural heritage while symbolizing the unity and strength of women.
The Lezim dance is a traditional Maharashtrian folk dance, performed with a small musical instrument called Lezim, which produces rhythmic metallic sounds during synchronized movements.

Health Initiatives and HPV Vaccination Campaign
Women’s health was another important focus of the celebrations. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde launched a Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign along with a special Pink OPD service in Mumbai.
The campaign aims to increase awareness about preventive healthcare for women and girls, particularly protection against cervical cancer. The initiative also promotes regular health check-ups and improved access to medical services.
In districts such as Latur and Nanded, more than 20,000 girls aged 14 years or below will receive the Gardasil-4 vaccine free of cost as part of the vaccination drive.

Sports Events Encouraging Women’s Participation

In Nagpur, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation hosted a Pink Marathon at Yashwant Stadium, attracting participants from different age groups.
Similarly, in Beed district, hundreds of women including schoolgirls, working professionals, and senior citizens took part in a women’s marathon. These events reflected the growing enthusiasm of women in sports and physical activities.

Participants rode motorcycles while wearing the traditional Nauvari saree, symbolizing cultural pride and confidence.
Meanwhile, in Sangli district, around 15,000 schoolgirls received self-defence training under a special Girl Empowerment initiative. The program aimed to improve confidence, safety awareness, and leadership among young girls.
These activities collectively highlighted Maharashtra’s efforts to promote women’s empowerment, health awareness, and cultural identity through large-scale public participation.
