What Is the Cell Broadcast Solution

The Cell Broadcast Solution (CBS) is a technology that sends emergency messages to all mobile phones within a specific geographic area. Unlike SMS, it does not depend on individual phone numbers or network load.

Messages are delivered instantly through cellular towers to every active device in the affected region. This makes the system reliable during emergencies when mobile networks are congested.

How the Unified Alert Platform Functions

C-DOT’s system integrates multiple disaster-monitoring agencies on a single national platform. Weather alerts come from the India Meteorological Department, while flood data is provided by the Central Water Commission.

Tsunami warnings are generated by INCOIS, landslide alerts by DGRE, and forest fire inputs by the Forest Survey of India. Alerts are validated by State Disaster Management Authorities and the National Disaster Management Authority before nationwide broadcast.

The solution is fully indigenous, automated, and cost-effective. It supports multi-hazard alerts and delivers messages in 21 Indian languages, ensuring inclusivity.
