What Is the Jhumur Dance?
The Jhumur (or Jhumoir) is a traditional folk dance of the tribal communities in Assam, West Bengal, and Jharkhand. Often performed during harvest festivals, it symbolizes unity, resilience, and celebration among rural communities. Women, usually in vibrant attire, perform synchronized steps in circular formations to rhythmic beats and regional folk songs. By organizing the largest gathering of Jhumur dancers, Assam hopes to put this indigenous dance form on the global cultural map.

The event is strategically scheduled a day before the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment Summit (February 25–26, 2025), which focuses on infrastructure growth, foreign investment, and industrial expansion.
