Angikaar 2025 Driving PMAY-U 2.0 Implementation

Launch of Angikaar 2025

Angikaar 2025 Driving PMAY-U 2.0 Implementation: The Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, launched Angikaar 2025 in New Delhi. The campaign is a focused outreach drive under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0). Its main objective is to accelerate housing delivery and ensure that beneficiaries are fully aware of entitlements and linked schemes.

The initiative will run for two months, from 4 September to 31 October 2025, covering over 5,000 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).

Objectives of the Campaign

Angikaar 2025 aims to create large-scale awareness about the revamped PMAY-U 2.0, ensure verification of applications, and fast-track completion of sanctioned houses. Beneficiaries are being informed about associated schemes like Credit Risk Guarantee Fund Trust for Low Income Housing (CRGFTLIH) and PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

Static GK fact: PMAY-U was launched in 2015 with the mission to provide housing for all urban households by 2022, later extended to address unmet demand.

Focus on Vulnerable Groups

The campaign gives priority to Special Focus Groups (SFGs) including slum dwellers, migrant workers, single women, senior citizens, and low-income families. Activities such as door-to-door visits, community events, and loan melas are being organized to ensure inclusion.

This grassroots approach strengthens Jan Bhagidari, encouraging community participation and building ownership among beneficiaries.

Progress of PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0

Since its inception, PMAY-U has sanctioned 120 lakh houses, with 94.11 lakh completed and handed over. The launch of Angikaar 2025 is expected to drive completion of the remaining houses while expanding coverage.

Under PMAY-U 2.0, the government aims to enroll one crore additional urban families, each receiving ₹2.5 lakh financial assistance for constructing or purchasing pucca houses in cities.

Static GK fact: The first Housing for All mission in India was launched in 1985 as Indira Awas Yojana, focusing on rural housing, which later evolved into PMAY (Gramin and Urban).

Why Angikaar 2025 is Significant

The campaign strengthens the government’s promise of Housing for All by:

  • Bridging the last-mile delivery gap.
  • Ensuring convergence with other schemes for maximum impact.
  • Empowering vulnerable communities with better access to housing rights.
  • Reinforcing transparency and accountability in urban housing programs.

It reflects the government’s focus on not just announcing welfare schemes but ensuring their ground-level impact.
