National Recognition for Sustained Performance
Andhra Pradesh Leads National Energy Conservation Drive: Andhra Pradesh has secured the National Energy Conservation Award for the fourth consecutive year, reinforcing its status as a national frontrunner in energy efficiency. This recognition highlights the State’s long-term commitment to reducing energy intensity through structured policies and measurable outcomes.
The award was announced at the National Energy Conservation Award–2025, where Andhra Pradesh emerged as the First Prize winner in Group II. The State demonstrated strong performance across sectors such as buildings, industry, agriculture, transport, municipal services, and power distribution utilities.
Static GK fact: National Energy Conservation Day is observed every year on December 14 across India.
Category-wise Excellence and Evaluation
States are evaluated and grouped based on Total Final Energy Consumption, ensuring fair comparison among comparable regions. Andhra Pradesh topped Group II with an impressive 89.25 score in the State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI)–2025.
This marked an improvement of 2.3 per cent over the previous year, rising from 87.25 in SEEI–2024. The steady upward trajectory reflects consistent policy implementation rather than isolated interventions.
Static GK Tip: The State Energy Efficiency Index is prepared annually to assess States on policy, implementation, and outcome-based energy savings.
Leadership and Institutional Coordination
The achievement has been attributed to the leadership of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and the administrative coordination led by Chief Secretary K Vijayanand. Policy direction combined with execution efficiency played a crucial role in delivering sector-wide results.
Support from Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar and the operational leadership of the AP State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM) strengthened institutional follow-through. The Mission, under CEO S Nagalakshmi, ensured monitoring and convergence among departments.
Static GK fact: The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) functions under the Ministry of Power, Government of India.
Policy Framework and Sectoral Interventions
Andhra Pradesh implemented multiple reforms through the Integrated Clean Energy Policy and AP Industrial Development Policy 4.0 (2024–29). Dedicated sectoral policies for MSMEs, electronics, and food processing supported technology upgrades and energy audits.
Energy Conservation Cells were established across departments with nominated nodal officers. Enforcement of the Energy Conservation Building Code in public infrastructure improved compliance in schools, hospitals, and ITIs.
Municipal bodies adopted energy-efficient pumping systems, while industries integrated advanced technologies to reduce energy losses. Power utilities and DISCOMs also contributed through demand-side management initiatives.
National-Level Recognition and Future Outreach
The award will be presented by President Droupadi Murmu at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, on National Energy Conservation Day. The honour will be received on behalf of the State by APSPDCL CMD L Sivashankar.
APSECM has announced plans to expand outreach among government departments, educational institutions, industries, and communities. The focus remains on unlocking untapped energy-saving potential while aligning conservation with economic growth.
Static GK fact: Energy efficiency is globally recognised as the first fuel, as it reduces demand without additional generation capacity.
