Thiruvalluvar Statue Inaugurated in the Philippines to Mark 75 Years of India-Philippines Ties: In a landmark celebration of 75 years of diplomatic relations between India and the Philippines, Indian Ambassador Harsh Kumar Jain inaugurated a statue of Thiruvalluvar, the revered Tamil poet and philosopher, on February 17, 2025. The unveiling ceremony took place at Gullas College of Medicine (GCM) in Cebu, and was attended by dignitaries including former Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, diplomats, officials, and members of the Indian diaspora.

Thiruvalluvar, the legendary author of the Thirukkural, is regarded as one of the greatest literary figures in Tamil culture. His teachings on morality, ethics, governance, and human values transcend time and geography. The installation of his statue in the Philippines not only honors his philosophical contributions, but also serves as a cultural bridge between India and Southeast Asia, echoing the timeless nature of his work.

The event coincided with the Indo-Philippine Cultural and Educational Exchange Summit, also hosted at GCM. Attendees included scholars, diplomats, and performers from both countries.
