Strengthening India’s AI Vision
MeitY Launches AIKosha to Power India’s Secure AI Infrastructure: India’s ambition to emerge as a global hub for trusted artificial intelligence has taken a significant leap with the unveiling of AIKosha, a secured platform to support AI innovation and development. Launched by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in March 2025 during the IndiaAI Mission anniversary, the platform is part of an integrated plan to foster responsible and inclusive AI growth. Alongside AIKosha, several complementary programs were also introduced to aid startups, students, civil servants, and innovation in smaller cities.
AIKosha and Compute Portal: Fueling Innovation with Data and Power
AIKosha, also known as the IndiaAI datasets repository, offers curated AI-ready datasets, pre-trained models, and a library of use cases. Key features include AI sandbox environments, secure APIs, encrypted data access, and intelligent filtering systems for real-time analysis. Supporting this is the IndiaAI Compute Portal, which gives eligible institutions access to high-performance AI compute infrastructure like NVIDIA H100, AMD MI300x, and AWS Tranium at up to 40% subsidized rates—helping drive AI adoption in academia, government, and startups.
Building an AI-Skilled Workforce Across India
To enhance AI literacy among public officials, the AI Competency Framework delivers structured, modular content based on global standards for ethical AI use. The learning is hosted on the iGOT-AI platform, integrated within the Karmayogi digital learning system. The IndiaAI FutureSkills and Fellowship Program has also been launched to support undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students at IITs, IIITs, and NITs. The program aims to nurture AI talent while expanding IndiaAI Data Labs in Tier 2 and Tier 3 towns, focusing on applied AI in healthcare, governance, and agriculture.
Boosting Startups Through Global Exposure and Challenges
In a strategic global move, India partnered with STATION F and HEC Paris to roll out the IndiaAI Startups Global Acceleration Program, supporting 10 promising startups with mentorship, investor access, and international visibility. Simultaneously, the IndiaAI Innovation Challenge attracted over 900 AI project proposals from across the country in areas like climate science, digital health, inclusive education, and public service delivery. Thirty projects have been shortlisted for further support and implementation.
