India’s First AI University to Open in Maharashtra: Maharashtra is preparing to rewrite the future of education with the launch of India’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) university. Announced in early 2025, this bold initiative marks a major turning point in India’s approach to AI-driven learning, research, and technological development. To ensure structured planning, a task force of experts has been set up. Chaired by the Principal Secretary of Maharashtra’s IT Department, it includes top representatives from across sectors. Members comprise directors of IIT Mumbai and IIM Mumbai, and executives from major firms like Google India, L&T, and the Mahindra Group. Also onboard are key officials from the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) and the Rajiv Gandhi Science & Technology Commission.
Such a collaborative model reflects the government’s intention to balance academic excellence with industry relevance.
Focus Areas: More Than Just Education
This AI university won’t just offer degrees—it’s being envisioned as a Centre of Excellence for AI. Its focus areas include:
