This year, Leading Fireman K. Vetrivel from Chennai received the Anna Medal for Gallantry after rescuing three individuals from drowning in the Adyar River. This award is given for acts of valor in life-threatening situations. Vetrivel’s fearless decision to risk his own life exemplifies what true bravery looks like. His story serves as an inspiration not only to emergency responders but also to ordinary citizens.
Humanitarian Spirit: Kottai Ameer Award
S.A. Ameer Amsa, from Ramanathapuram district, was presented the Kottai Ameer Award for his long-standing service in performing the final rites of over 1,000 unclaimed bodies. His quiet contribution to society highlights the importance of respect and dignity, even in death. This award acknowledges such often-overlooked, deeply humane acts of service that form the core of a compassionate community.
Agricultural Excellence: Narayanasamy Naidu Award
From the agricultural sector, R. Murugavel of Theni district was honoured with the Narayanasamy Naidu Paddy Productivity Award. Recognized for his use of innovative and high-yield techniques in paddy cultivation, Murugavel’s success story is a reminder of how modern farming practices rooted in local knowledge can enhance rural prosperity and food production.
Commendable Policing: Gandhi Adigal Police Medals
In the field of law enforcement, multiple officers were recognized with the Gandhi Adigal Police Medals. Inspector P. Chinnakamanan, Head Constables K. Mahamarx and K. Karthick, and Grade II Police Constables K. Siva and P. Poomalai were among the recipients. Best Performing Police Stations in Tamil Nadu
The Chief Minister’s Trophy for Best Police Station rankings were also announced:
- 1st Place: Madurai City
- 2nd Place: Tiruppur City
- 3rd Place: Tiruvallur District
These awards were based on metrics like crime control, community outreach, and citizen satisfaction. Madurai City’s top rank reflects its recent success with community policing strategies that improved public trust and reduced crime rates.
