Major Approval
Tato II Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh: The Union Government has approved investment of over Rs 8,000 crore for the construction of the Tato-II Hydro-Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh. This project will be set up in the Shi Yomi district and is expected to be completed within 72 months. It will not only strengthen the state’s power supply but also contribute significantly to the national power grid.

Project Capacity
The project will have an installed capacity of 700 MW, divided into four units of 175 MW each. Once operational, it is expected to generate about 2,738 million units of electricity annually. The project will be executed as a joint venture between NEEPCO (North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd) and the Arunachal Pradesh Government.

Government Support
The project has a total cost of Rs 8,146.21 crore. The Centre will provide Rs 458.79 crore for building roads, bridges, and transmission lines, while an additional Rs 436.13 crore will be given as Central Financial Assistance to support the state’s equity share. This assistance ensures faster implementation and necessary infrastructure upgrades.
Power Allocation
As part of the agreement, 12% of the generated power will be given free to Arunachal Pradesh, while 1% will go to the Local Area Development Fund (LADF). This allocation will improve power availability in the state and help balance the national grid during peak demand hours.

Socio-Economic Benefits
The project is expected to create significant direct and indirect employment opportunities. It will benefit local suppliers, small enterprises, and MSMEs under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. Additionally, 32.88 kilometres of new roads and bridges will be developed, improving regional connectivity.
Community Development
An amount of Rs 20 crore has been allocated for community facilities such as hospitals, schools, marketplaces, and playgrounds. Compensation packages, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, and skill development programmes are also planned to uplift the local population. This ensures that the project contributes to both infrastructure growth and social welfare.
