Green hydrogen mission takes centre stage
Andhra Pradesh Leads Green Hydrogen Transformation: The Government of Andhra Pradesh unveiled its Green Hydrogen Valley Declaration 2025, setting a bold roadmap to become India’s top green hydrogen hub. The focus is on innovation, domestic manufacturing, and renewable power utilisation.
Vision for hydrogen leadership
The declaration outlines four goals – scaling up green hydrogen production, developing manufacturing infrastructure, encouraging global partnerships, and enhancing technical capacity. This aligns with India’s larger goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
Electrolyser capacity and production targets
A core target is establishing 5 GW electrolyser manufacturing capacity by 2029. Electrolysers help produce green hydrogen using solar and wind electricity. Andhra Pradesh also aims to produce 1.5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen per year by the same deadline.
Static GK fact: Electrolysers split water into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity, enabling carbon-free hydrogen production.
Reducing cost through green energy
The State plans to cut hydrogen cost from ₹460 to ₹160–170/kg. This will be achieved through a 25 GW Green Energy Corridor, ensuring stable and efficient power transmission for hydrogen generation.
Local supply chain and manufacturing
By 2030, 60% of electrolyser components and hydrogen storage systems will be made within Andhra Pradesh. The plan includes setting up three major production units, boosting local employment and reducing import dependency.
Static GK tip: India’s first National Green Hydrogen Mission was launched in January 2023 with a total outlay of ₹19,744 crore.
Renewable resources power the plan
Andhra Pradesh benefits from abundant solar, wind, and coastal resources. These assets will power hydrogen production units, making green hydrogen generation both scalable and sustainable.
Boosting innovation and collaboration
The declaration supports collaborative R&D with global energy firms, research institutes, and universities. A recent Green Hydrogen Summit at SRM University Amaravati involved 600+ delegates shaping clean fuel policies.
Aligning with national clean energy goals
The declaration integrates policy, governance, and sustainability for long-term impact. It supports India’s broader efforts in decarbonisation and green energy development, while also setting a model for other Indian states.
