India Accelerates EV Mission at Energy Storage Week 2025: India Energy Storage Week 2025 opened on July 10, 2025, at Yashobhoomi, Delhi, with Minister of State Harsh Malhotra emphasizing India’s commitment to sustainable mobility. He highlighted the government’s continuous focus on developing the electric vehicle (EV) sector to combat pollution and reduce fossil fuel dependency.
Government initiatives such as PM e-Drive and FAME-II are building a robust ecosystem for EV manufacturing. These schemes are helping to reduce urban air pollution and make India’s transport sector more environment-friendly.

India’s fast-growing EV ecosystem

At the session on Vehicle Electrification Roadmap, Malhotra outlined how EV retrofitting policies, toll tax exemptions, and clear regulatory support are helping make electric vehicles more affordable.
These steps are designed to encourage both commercial and private sectors to adopt e-mobility solutions at scale.
Green logistics transformation
The Ministry of Roads, Transport & Highways is developing Multi-Modal Logistics Parks (MMLPs) that integrate road, rail, and warehouse facilities. Now, these parks are being upgraded with EV charging stations and solar energy systems to cut emissions from the logistics sector.
This aligns with India’s plan to become a global green transport hub and reduce logistics costs by 10%.

Battery innovation and renewable goals
Malhotra called on the industry to invest in battery storage systems customized for Indian conditions. He stressed the need for battery recycling, local production, and R&D investment.
The larger national goal remains India’s Net Zero carbon emission target by 2070. For this, the government is promoting domestic battery technologies and has set a renewable energy target of 500 GW by 2030.
