Cyber drill strengthens India’s digital shield
Cyber Suraksha Exercise Begins to Boost India’s Cyber Defence: The Cyber Suraksha Exercise, launched on June 16, 2025, is a significant step by India’s Defence Cyber Agency (DCA) to safeguard the country’s cyberspace. Scheduled to run until June 27, this high-level cyber drill is conducted under the Integrated Defence Staff headquarters. The aim is simple yet vital — to test, train, and sharpen the cyber defence skills of those who protect the nation digitally.
Simulating cyber attacks to stay prepared
Unlike routine classroom learning, Cyber Suraksha immerses participants in realistic cyber threat simulations. This helps them understand the intensity and complexity of actual attacks. The multi-phase structure includes targeted training sessions and sessions designed to engage senior leaders too. The idea is not just to fix problems when they occur, but to stay steps ahead of cyber attackers.
Diverse professionals lead the charge
What makes this initiative unique is its participant base. Over 100 individuals, including Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs), defence cyber personnel, and experts from national security agencies, have come together. This variety ensures different perspectives and expertise, which are key to managing diverse cyber incidents.
Leadership joins through CISOs Conclave
One of the exercise’s highlights is the CISOs Conclave, where top-level leadership actively participates in cybersecurity discussions. These sessions are not just about talks. They feature a Table-Top Exercise, where leaders simulate decision-making under attack scenarios. This encourages leaders to link policy with tech solutions—a crucial skill in modern security systems.
Gamified learning makes a difference
Instead of just theory-based drills, Cyber Suraksha makes learning interactive. Through gamified simulations, participants are pushed into real-time cyberattack scenarios. This method mirrors gaming techniques, but with serious intent—to boost technical skills, teamwork, and speed under pressure. Such methods are increasingly used in modern cyber warfare training.
More drills planned for future
Recognising the fast-changing digital world, the Defence Cyber Agency plans to hold similar exercises regularly. This reflects a strong commitment to continuous learning and keeping our cyber warriors alert and updated.
Cybersecurity as a national priority
In today’s era, cyber resilience isn’t optional—it’s essential. Exercises like Cyber Suraksha help build confidence, fast response ability, and coordination across defence and civilian cyber teams. It’s a reminder that in a world where threats may come from a keyboard instead of a battlefield, being prepared is our strongest defence.
