Digital tools for better delivery
India Accelerates Digital Farming with Agri Stack Conference 2025: On June 13, 2025, a landmark conference was held at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, New Delhi, by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare. The focus? To take India’s agriculture into the digital age. The event, named Agri Stack: Turning Data into Delivery, was more than just a talk show. It gathered officials from the Centre and States to chalk out ways technology could make farming more transparent and efficient.
The biggest announcement was the allocation of ₹6,000 crore under the Special Central Assistance (SCA) fund. Of this, ₹4,000 crore is dedicated to building a Farmer Registry, and ₹2,000 crore to support the Digital Crop Survey. This fund will be disbursed on a first-come-first-served basis, which pushes States to act fast.
Digitally empowering farmers
To ensure that farmers can access services with ease, the government launched Digitally Verifiable Certificates (DVCs), also known as Kisan Pehchan Patra. These are safe, digital IDs that connect a farmer’s land and crop details. If a land transfer occurs, the DVC can be revoked and updated via DigiLocker. This small step makes a big difference in reducing paperwork and fraud.
Additionally, a Unified Grievance Redressal Portal was introduced. It’s user-friendly, with OTP login, audio upload options, and multilingual support—ensuring farmers across India can register complaints without confusion.
MoUs with key States
The Centre signed agreements with Maharashtra, Kerala, Bihar, and Odisha. These States will use the PSB Alliance platform to provide credit services to farmers using the Farmer Registry. States like Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka showcased how Agri Stack already plays a role in things like MSP procurement, soil health management, and even disaster relief.
AI in the fields
A big highlight was the launch of an AI-powered chatbot, built using Google Gemini. This chatbot understands multiple Indian languages and answers farmer questions using Agri Stack data. Pilot projects are also exploring crop identification and facial recognition to verify field workers.
What is Agri Stack?
Agri Stack is part of the Digital Agriculture Mission launched in 2021. It connects Aadhaar-based identity, land records, and farming databases to make scheme delivery smooth. It integrates information from various departments, including the Department of Land Resources (DoLR), creating a one-stop ecosystem for all things agriculture.
Why it matters?
By embracing digital tools, India is setting itself apart as a global leader in digital agricultural governance. With every record digitally logged, fraud becomes harder, and help reaches farmers faster. Plus, it strengthens public-private partnerships and builds space for innovation in every State.
