Grievance resolution sees strong growth

States Resolve Over 78,000 Grievances in May 2025: India’s public grievance handling system saw a significant boost in May 2025. According to the latest update from the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), more than 78,000 complaints were successfully resolved by States and Union Territories. Compared to April’s 57,000 cases, the data reflects growing efficiency in grievance response and a stronger focus on citizen satisfaction.

This system works through the Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS), a digital platform that allows people to report issues related to government services and monitor their progress online.

Citizen involvement continues to rise

One of the most encouraging signs in the report is the increase in new users. In May alone, 60,499 people signed up, showing greater public trust in the system. Uttar Pradesh led with 10,043 new registrations, demonstrating active citizen involvement in the state.

To reach every corner of the country, the CPGRAMS platform has been linked with over five lakh Common Service Centres (CSCs). These centres, often managed by Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs), allow people in villages and remote areas to submit complaints easily, making the process more inclusive.

States showing better performance

Grievance disposal rates are improving in several regions. Uttar Pradesh handled the highest number of complaints—26,658 cases, while Gujarat followed with 14,369 cases closed. In total, 14 States and Union Territories resolved over 1,000 complaints each during the month. This shows a positive trend toward quick resolution of public concerns.

Despite these achievements, over 1.97 lakh cases remained pending at the end of May. This highlights the ongoing need to improve administrative speed and reduce backlog.

Feedback collection promotes transparency

Apart from solving complaints, CPGRAMS is also focused on service quality. Around 65,601 feedback entries were recorded in May 2025, with over 26,000 responses coming directly from different States and UTs. Feedback helps improve government accountability and shapes future reforms.

The grievance system operates in line with the Sevottam framework, which promotes excellence in service delivery. Feedback plays a central role in identifying what works and what doesn’t.

Useful background facts

The Sevottam model was developed by DARPG to set standards in public service delivery. CPGRAMS is a key part of this initiative. The inclusion of CSCs ensures even people in rural India can access grievance redress services.
