Tribal village shows the way
Rohini Gram Panchayat wins top national award for digital governance: Tucked away in the remote Shirpur taluka of Dhule district, Maharashtra, the Rohini Gram Panchayat, a 100% tribal village, has earned national applause. It bagged the Gold Award in the National e-Governance Awards 2025. Out of 1.45 lakh entries from across India, this humble panchayat stood out in the Grassroots Level Initiatives category.
Awarded for digital excellence
The recognition came from the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) and the Ministry of Panchayati Raj. This award celebrates outstanding implementation of digital governance in rural India. Rohini Panchayat’s digital success story shows how committed efforts can reshape rural administration, even in Scheduled Areas.
Over 950 services delivered digitally
Rohini offers more than 956 digital services to its citizens. These include birth and death certificates through WhatsApp and email, online fee payments, and real-time service tracking. The Panchayat follows the Maharashtra Right to Public Services Act, ensuring service delivery within just 7 working days.
This is an example of how basic services, when digitized, become more accessible, saving villagers both time and money.
What makes Rohini different?
Rohini’s approach isn’t just about software and servers. It’s about connecting with people. The Panchayat actively uses YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram to spread important messages. For a tribal village, this level of social media engagement is both rare and revolutionary.
The Panchayat also takes care of multiple community needs:
- Education: School records and student attendance are now monitored online.
- Health: Vaccination data and public health alerts are shared digitally.
- Welfare: Anganwadi data, maternal health, and child welfare updates are maintained online.
- Agriculture and Livestock: Farmers can access weather updates and subsidy details on time.
Recognition beyond awards
Before winning this national recognition, Rohini was already honoured by the Government of Maharashtra as an e-Governance model panchayat. Now, with this Gold Award, the village sets a benchmark for others aiming to follow the Digital India roadmap.
Other awardees
- Silver: West Majlishpur Gram Panchayat, Tripura
- Jury Awards: Palsana (Gujarat) and Suakati (Odisha)
These examples show that across different states, rural governance is stepping into a new digital age.
